Why GreenLight?

Twelve years ago, when I was deciding to name my business, it became clear that it must be GreenLight. Many people hear GreenLight and think it must have to do with  GO, like go forward, take action, keep moving. the name actually came from my first experience with the Green Flash in Kauai, HI.

The Green Flash is a beautiful phenomenon in which part of the sun appears to suddenly change color for about 1 or 2 seconds as it hits the horizon slightly above the ocean waters. The brief flash of green light is seen more often at sunset than at sunrise.

To notice the GreenLight Flash  you must slow down and pay close attention or you will miss it.   The first GreenLight Flash I saw became a metaphor for gaining clarity on one’s purpose. It takes slowing down, mindfulness, and connection to truly tap into what you were meant to do on this planet.

We are a culture addicted to busyness. We have the ability to be virtually connected 24/7, and this constant stimulation  is having a negative impact on our lives, self-connection, and relationships. But this GreenLight Flash, this beautiful natural phenomenon, is another reminder that when we slow down, that is where the MAGIC lives. It is not in rushing around or keeping our heads down and glued to our phones and computers, but really about seeing all that the natural world has to teach us.

PAYING ATTENTION, BE ASTONISHED AND TELL ABOUT IT, as Mary Oliver so eloquently said; these are the instructions for living life.

When you are in transition toward your purpose you may think, “I better get busy and figure this out,” but in reality it is in the slowing down, paying attention, and self-connecting that your purpose will reveal itself.

Nature is truly the best teacher when it comes to living on purpose. She has magical ways of showing us what is truly most important in life. So the next time you think of GreenLight, think of slowing down, paying attention, allowing magic and listening deeply to your soul’s calling.
